Enrolling

Please make sure you are familiar with our trimester intake dates and enrolment cutoff dates.

If you are studying through a Learning Support Centre, the enrolment cutoff dates may differ. You will need to contact your Learning Support Centre to confirm the dates and enrol directly through your Learning Support Centre.

For students studying directly through MIBA as a distance student, you will need to fill out the enrolment form in the Student Resources area of Moodle (http://moodle.miba.edu.au/).

You can view the recommended study schedule for your course in your course handbook. Please locate and download your course handbook from the following list:
Course Handbooks: You can also download the latest Student handbook:

Textbooks

Most units require the use of textbooks. Please download the Textbook List (PDF, 59kb). You should make sure you have access to a textbook if your unit requires one. If you are ordering textbooks, this must be done well in advance of the start of trimester to ensure you receive your textbooks on time. It is the responsibility of you as the student to make sure you have access to the textbooks you require. Please find below some ideas for purchasing textbooks.

  • The Co-op Bookshop - This bookshop is recommended by MIBA (this is where MIBA purchases textbooks). You can become a member of the Co-op Bookshop for a one-time joining fee of $20 AUD. This allows you to receive discounts on book purchases and is very worthwhile if you will be purchasing a number of textbooks from the Co-op Bookshop during your studies. You can search and order your textbook online and have the book shipped to your country prior to the start of trimester.

  • Amazon.com - This bookshop stocks a range of textbooks.

  • Some Learning Support Centres provide unit textbooks in their library. If you are studying through a Learning Support Centre, please check if copies of the textbook you require are available in the centre. If not, you will need to make alternate arrangements such as purchasing the textbook yourself.

  • If you purchase a textbook, have a look at the option of selling your textbook to a student who will be studying the textbook in the next trimester after you have finished with it.

  • Split the cost of your textbook with other local students studying the unit. You may even be able to sell the textbook to a student who will be studying the unit in the text trimester.

Exam Invigilation

Distance students need to organise an exam invigilator to oversee their exam. An invigilator must not be a friend or family member. They must be a professional person such as a teacher in a school or university, police officer, nurse, etc. They must be prepared to supervise your entire exam which may go for as long as three hours, and must exercise strict exam confidentiality. Once you have found an invigilator, please ask them to fill out the Distance student invigilator declaration form (PDF, 22kb).

Students studying through a Learning Support Centre do not need to organise an exam invigilator. Your Learning Support Centre will organise an exam venue and time for you.

2 1

Access to your units of study will be through an online learning management system called Moodle. Moodle is a great resource that gives you access to your learning material as well as discussion forums where you can interact with other students. We encourage you to use the discussion forums as much as possible to interact with other students.

Once you have enrolled in your units of study, you will be sent a login so you can access your units of study online through Moodle. Moodle will be available to login from the first day of trimester.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Credit will be granted to students who have previously completed studies with equivalent content and at the equivalent level as units offered by MIBA at a recognised institution.

The maximum amount of credit that can be granted in a program is 50%. This means that at least half the units the student completes in their program must be MIBA units.

You must include the following information in your application for RPL:
  • The Application for Recognition of Prior Learning form (PDF, 166kb) - Please download and complete this form
  • A certified copy of your academic transcripts and testamurs (if your name has changed, documentary evidence of your name change must be included in your application)
  • Unit outlines for the units you are applying for exemption in. The outlines must be official university outlines with sufficient details on content, method of assessments, unit value, textbooks used).
More information on applying for credit can be found in our Policy Compendium.

Please note that an application that does not contain sufficient information may be rejected without having been assessed.
